riding at the ranch
Here at Crossed Sabres Ranch, horses are our specialty. Our herd of horses are well trained and trustworthy animals. We can accommodate guests ranging from no experience to the seasoned veteran, and you will be paired with a horse specifically chosen to match your ability level. Our riding caters to your desires: be it a lesson in our arena, a short morning or afternoon ride, or an all-day ride with a packed lunch to explore beautiful meadows and high mountain views. The experienced wranglers can teach you all about riding as well as the areas you’ll be riding in. Wildlife such as buffalo, deer, and elk is abundant in our neck of the woods so be sure to keep a keen eye out. You might even get lucky and come across a bear or moose. Our location within the Shoshone National Forest, which consists of more then two million acres, makes the possibilities for adventure endless. There is a max weight limit of 250 pounds for all horse related activities.
The Yellowstone ecosystem is a premier destination for fishing enthusiasts around the world and Crossed Sabres Ranch conveniently sits along the North Fork of the Shoshone river just eight miles from the park’s entrance. This gives our guests direct access to nearly 40 miles of world class fishing. You can expect to catch trout species such as rainbows, browns, brooks and just maybe get lucky with the prized catch of a Yellowstone cutthroat! For the avid angler, feel free to bring your gear to embark on the river. Our guides can point you to their favorite holes and let you practice your skill. For those just starting out or not wanting to travel with gear, the ranch provides nearly everything one would need for a day on the river. Our fishing rods, reels, and waters are made up of quality Orvis products. Our guides will be there to teach proper use and technique to ensure you get the most out of your time on the water.

Yellowstone National Park
With the ranch located a short eight miles from the East Entrance to Yellowstone, the ability to experience one of the the world’s most dramatic national parks lies at your finger tips. We understand that the first full day of riding can leave our guests a little saddle sore, so Tuesday is a chance to take it easy on a guided van-tour of some of Yellowstone’s most iconic landmarks. Over the course of approximately eight hours you will have the opportunity to get out and explore six different stops including the famous Old Faithful Geyser and Grand Prismatic Hot Spring. It’s a great opportunity to see one of the nation’s most historic parks and learning about the unique environment from our knowledgeable guides. Lunch is done picnic style and snacks are provided for the day. Be sure to bring your camera; wildlife sightings are almost a guarantee!
Crossed Sabres Ranch is the perfect destination for a family vacation. However, if you’re ready for a break, parents can rest at ease and fully enjoy their time away knowing their kids are in great hands. Our kids program is designed to ensure your children have as enjoyable a vacation as you do. For older kids, our arena is the perfect place to hone skills before heading out on the trail. For the real youngsters, pony rides are available around the ranch premises where they can learn to find their balance on a horse and become comfortable around the animals. Fun can also be educational. While your kids are having the times of their lives, they’ll be learning about local history, plants, and animals. Other activities such as scavenger hunts, ranch games, archery, and a BB gun range will keep your children entertained all week long. Each week, our program is planned around the needs and wants of the kids staying on the ranch.
cody and the rodeo
Cody and The Rodeo
Once a week we head into historic Cody, Wyoming, home to the famous “Buffalo Bill” Cody, for the Cody Nite Rodeo. Cody is known as the Rodeo Capital of the World and witnessing the Nite Rodeo is an easy way to understand why! Watch as cowboys and cowgirls compete in events such as saddle bronc, tie-down roping, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. Eager youngsters in the audience will even have their own chance to compete in the calf scramble. Crossed Sabres Ranch is proud to have hosted a former calf-scramble champion, so be sure to bring your fastest pair of boots/sneakers and A-game!
Since the ranch sits within the Shoshone National Forest outside of Yellowstone, saying there are a few hiking trails is quite an understatement. The area consists of a lifetime’s worth of trails to explore. Trails range from a short hour hike to an all-day adventure. If your body needs a rest from all the riding you’ve been doing, but you still want to get out and see more of this beautiful country, a hike is the perfect option.
Rafting the North Fork of the Shoshone is an exhilarating and rewarding experience. You will head out with a knowledgeable guide to see the area from a completely different perspective. During the earlier months of summer, you will test your rafting skills with white water. Later in the summer, when the river calms, kick back and enjoy a peaceful float trip. While on the the river, you will take in breath-taking views and have the chance to see a variety of wildlife. Bald eagles, elk, and moose are common along the river.
